Year 5 Science Workshop
Parachute and Skipping Festival
Our reception and year 1 children attended our parachute and skipping festival which involved a colourful display of parachute games, including fun games to help coordination. The parachute games encouraged cooperative, non-competitive play and reinforce turn-taking and sharing. The parachutes also help strengthen the children’s upper torso. The children worked together to make the parachute billow, they also refine perceptual motor skills and develop a sense of rhythm.
The children also completed a variety of skipping stations which helped them learn the skills to skip. These included skipping with long ropes; french skipping and rhymes; electronic skipping; hoop skipping and jumping activities.
Red Nose Day 2017
This year we raised £107.40p on Red Nose Day.
Funny Faces – The children came to school with:
- Face paints
- Funny hats
- Comedy glasses
- Fake nose etc
Jokes – During the day there were various joke themed activities, where the children were able to tell jokes to their class, to other children, to adults etc. The children brought in spare change (1p, 2p, 5p, 10p) to donate when they either hear a good joke, or to pay someone to tell them a joke. These coins were collected for the Red Nose Day appeal.
World Book Day
What a lot of lovely costumes we had for World Book Day. This was a fabulous day, we were so impressed with the efforts that went into the outfits. The children also brought from home a book to donate, which allowed every child in the school to choose a free book to keep. Many of the children were reading their new books at playtime – great to have such enthusiasm for reading.
Yarty Class Wetlands Visit
It seems that Yarty class had an absolutely fabulous time at the Seaton wetlands, they all came back suitably muddy and totally buzzing with stories of what had happened! Mr Davis was very pleased, everybody behaved well and was sensible for the whole day and learnt loads. It is always great to hear the children enjoying themselves; they are now looking forward to their ‘Forest School’ sessions in the Summer Term.

PE Academy Workshop
All the children were fabulous and worked hard with Stephen Pritchard and the Sports Leaders. The objective of the session was ‘to out manoeuvre an opponent on the badminton court and be able to explain their strategy’
PE Academy Programme
The School Sports Partnership promotes the importance of Physical Education, healthy active lifestyles and school sport. One aspect of the Partnerships work is to offer children who show above average ability in PE with an Academy Programme.
The Academy provides additional challenges and opportunities to develop children’s potential beyond the PE curriculum.
Cross Country – East Devon Finals
Congratulations to the two cross-country teams who competed in the East Devon Finals at Bicton Arena in November.
They did themselves and the school proud.
Year 5 & Year 6 Swimming Gala
8 teams from Years 4, 5 and 6 represented schools in the Axe Valley Cluster Swimming Gala.
The races included front crawl, backstroke, breast stroke All races were 25m. We also had time to complete the 50m open race which was exciting to watch. Some children were also able to participate in the FUN relays. These included woggles and an on the water assault course which included some team work skills.
The children all put in a fantastic effort in their races. They also demonstrated good sportsmanship, cheering on others and supporting their team members.
Kilmington – Alara did particularly well and won 2 of her races. Jemimah, William, Noah and Nieeve also won their races. The boys relay did well with a time of 1.48.46sec and Noah did particularly well in the 50m winning his race with a time of 42.41s which was 6 seconds faster than second place from All Saints.
A total of 8 teams entered and Kilmington was announced the winning team for the third year running a fantastic achievement!
Well done to all who took part.
