Kilmington Primary School Governors
Who are they?
John Martell, Chairman of Governors
I was appointed a governor of Kilmington Primary School in 1974, a post which I feel priviledged to hold to this day. At that time we met just three times a year and meetings were much on the lines of a cup of tea and a chat. Oh, howthings have changed!
It has been a great pleasure to observe the development of children from when thye first enter the school to the time that they leave to go to a secondary phase of education as maturing young adults.
I would like to think that by being a governor I have been able, even in just a small measure, to enhance the education of successive generations of our pupils, for it is true to say that I myself reap a full measure of benefit from them in return.
I look forward to continuing the work of a school governor.
Bee Painton
I was born and education in Bristol and undertook bi-lingual business studies training after which I worked in the financial services industry both in the UK and overseas, later becoming a management consultant and an associate of Cranfield University School of Management. Since early work in Guiding and Scouting I have been involved in voluntary work with young people, about whose development I am passionate, for more than 30 years. I was honoured to be asked to become a Governor in 2007. My role is to bring the business skills I use in my career to the forum. I will work with parents and staff to the best of my ability for the good of the children and the school.
Sally Huscroft
I have been a governor of Kilmington Primary School for six years and I am a Community representative, also serving on Kilmington Parish Council.
I am a grandmother with two grandchildren attending Kilmington, and I also come from a teaching background having taught locally for 25 years, my interest being in Early Years Education.
At present I chair the Curriculum Committee and also have an input into Special Educational Needs, and The Foundation Stage.
Peter Trim
I am a former pupil of Dalwood Primary School and Colyton Grammar School. I have worked for 25 years in the Telecommunications industry and am now working as a receptionist at Axminster Hospital. I have been a LEA governor since 1999 on the request of the District Council.
Louise Quincey
I joined the Governing body as a Parent Governor in November 2006. I am a member of the building committee and the personnel committee. I have two children at the school and live in Kilmington.
I have been a part of the PTFA committee for five years with three of those years as Chair. I help voluntarily in school, including a regular commitment each week, currently one morning in Axe Class and one afternoon in Coly Class.
Prior to having a family, work included running a community and schools sports partnership programme, managing a large leisure centre and a recreation/therapy department for children and adults with special needs.
My hobbies include gardening, theatre, playing tennis and most outdoor pursuits.
Anthony Christopher
I am married to Natasha and have two children, Alexander and Hetty. We now live in Uplyme.
My day job is as a community doctor working for older people in East Devon. I have a special interest in education and help train other doctors and students at Exeter University.
Although I no longer have a child in the school I remain committed to trying to help. Kilmington is a fantastic school, but it needs constant support from the children, parents, staff and governors to keep it that way.
Diane Overton
I have a son, James, in Coly Class. I am a Parent Governor and joined the Governing body two years ago. I am also on the Curriculum Committee.
I became a governor because I have a general interest in Education and because I wanted to be more involved in the school community. An an ex-pupil of the school I wanted to ensure that Kilmington Primary School continues to be a successful, happy and nurturing learning environment for our children.
