 Kilmington Primary School

Mr Malcom Bettison

Headteacher/Teacher in Coly Class

“I started my teaching career in 1981 and over the years have taught in a number of schools in Devon. I have been headteacher at Kilmington for the past seventeen years and during this period I have seen the school grow both in size and the quality of teaching and learning being delivered.

I am immensely proud to lead such a super school, with fantastic pupils, staff,, governors and parents. Team work is a central theme to our leaning community and it shows itself in our many achievements and successes.

As well as my management duties I maintain and enjoy a regular teaching commitment in Coly Class. I have always been interested in History and Geography and I particularly look forward to the residential trips where our pupils can extend their learning and appreciation of the world we live in.

When not in school I enjoy gardening, exploring the countryside and trips to France!”

Mrs Valerie Harding

Administrator

Valerie has been the administrator for 24 years.  Valerie is the first “port of call” for parents and liaises between them and the teachers.  She has seen many changes in her years at the school and has “grown” into the position over time.

Mrs Angela Quick

Teacher in Coly Class

Mrs Quick teaches Coly Class on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday morning whilst Mr Bettison is busy in the office.  She teaches Maths, English, Science, PE and RE and also takes the class on outdoor activity adventures whenever she can.  Mrs Quick has overall responsibility for Year 6 so she takes care of them the best she can!

Mrs Sue Wilson

Teaching Assistant

“I have been working as a Teaching Assistant since 2005, some of the time at another local primary school and then at Kilmington Primary.  I have always worked with children in this country and abroad and enjoyed it very much.”

Mrs Jean Bowmer

Teacher in Coly Class

Mrs Jean Bowmer has been teaching in Kilmington for 12 years.   In that time the school has grown from a 2 class to a 3 class school and she currently teaches a Year2/3 class.  Mrs Bowmer enjoys teaching 6 to 8 year olds as they develop considerably in that period and are enthusiastic about their learning.  Since coming to the school she has had responsibility for the music curriculum.  The Christmas production is a significant event in the school year.  She also enjoys literacy and is coordinator for this subject.

Ms Caroline Doyle

Teacher in Axe Class

Caroline Doyle has been teaching Reception and Year 1 at Kilmington Primary for 11 years.  She originally trained to teach children with Special Needs and since moving to Devon has done a PGDip Ed in Special Needs.  Not surprisingly she is the Special Needs Coordinator.  She is responsible for PHSE throughout the school which means that she has responsibility for the Playtime Monitors and The School Council.  However, her main love is working with Early Years so Axe Class suits her very well.  She sees Social and Emotional Development as crucial to children’s educational progress and gives strong prominence to the role of play.

Mrs June Milman

Teaching Assistant

"I have been a T.A since 1983 and in that time have worked in 5 different schools.  I started a Majorette Troupe in Kilmington School in 2002 for 20 girls which has grown to 60 and has moved to Seaton.  They are called "Ice and Fire".

I am semi-retired and work in Coly Class every Friday."

Mrs Catherine Wilson

Higher Level Teaching Assistant

I have worked at Kilmington Primary for the last 6 years, mainly in Axe Class.  A couple of years ago I took the plunge and took my HLTA which has enabled me to step in and cover teachers PPA time, courses and sickness.

One of my real loves is Art (the messier the better), a love of which I hope I pass on to the children in school.”

Mrs Karen Saunders

Teaching Assistant

“I have been working at Kilmington Primary since January 2007 and am really enjoying being here.  Since leaving school I have had a variety of jobs but I can honestly say that working with the children is by far the most rewarding.”

Miss H Bishops

Teaching Assistant

Ms S Taylor

Teaching Assistant

“I started working with some of the children in Coly Class in September 2009.  I work with a group called 'Passport' and we work on different topics in maths and literacy.  In the last half term the children wrote, directed and acted in some mini-plays that we videoed and showed to the rest of the class.

Before working in Kilmington I worked at Musbury Primary and trained to be a TA.”
